Mehdi Khalili
Mehdi joined Legal & General Retirement America (LGRA) from the UK HQ in 2024 to help lead on Infrastructure and Clean Energy new asset initiatives for the US balance sheet, manage internal stakeholders across the L&G’s international division and interfaces with intermediaries to source, structure, and underwrite deals to support Pension Risk Transfer new business. He is currently Portfolio Manager looking after LGRA’s portfolio (current AUM >$11bn) and leading efforts to expand the investible universe in the public esoteric securitised credit space like data centres and fiber.
He has been at Legal & General for nearly 10 years, he is a qualified Investment & Finance Actuary, Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary and member of the Chartered Institute of Securities & Investments. Over the past few years he has led several new asset initiatives for the UK balance sheet leading to the creation of innovative funding solutions to structure assets into debt and equity (with a focus in real estate, digital infrastructure and clean energy) at Legal & General, examples include long lease commercial properties, Build to Rent, Energy Infrastructure assets and Purpose Built Student Accommodation. The solutions have helped increase profitability and boosted L&G's competitive advantage winning over £4 billion new business.
Key achievements include structuring over £2 billion real estate transactions providing the highest profit margins achieved on directly owned assets, working on the first directly owned UK Solar portfolio at Legal & General worth over £110m and co-led putting together an innovative Solvency II compliant structure to invest in digital infrastructure assets. Prior to L&G, he worked at BP in the Credit and Market risk teams and has experience trading financial products such as FX, Index and Fixed Income futures.
